Four Year Bsn
Admission to Four-Year BSN Program Admission is very competitive. Four-year scholarships are available to high school seniors in various fields. Too often universities emphasize the need to be book smart but this past year has taught me that there is more to learn about the world, its people, their culture, and myself than what is written in a textbook. The most successful accelerated students are bright, inquisitive, and sophisticated consumers of higher education who actively pursue learning opportunities, said Harriet Feldman, PhD, RN, FAAN, Dean of the Lienhard School of Nursing at Pace University (NY), whose Combined Degree Program (BSN/MS) has been in existence since 1984. Every course you take over the four years prepares you with confidence to be a leader and to become an expert in the clinical practice field." Colleen Gruffi Class of 2005 New City, NY The Learning Resource Center in the College of Nursing, which includes extensive computer resources, provides additional strength to our program. At this time, we are seeing an enormous increase in the numbers of applicants with bachelor's degrees applying for our new 12-month accelerated pathway to the BSN, reports Christena Langley, PhD, RN, Assistant Dean for Undergraduate Programs at the College of Nursing and Health Science at George Mason University (VA). Since late 90's many universities in the former USSR award 'diplom bakalavra' (bachelor's diploma) after the first four years of 'basic higher education', 'diplom spetsialista' (specialist diploma) after the first five years of 'full higher education', and 'diplom magistra' (master's diploma) after six years. In most disciplines, particularly science-related or within shorter 3-year courses, Honours degrees require an additional year of study where degree candidates must complete an original research project and submit a thesis , in addition to achieving a high-level of academic performance. The BA level corresponds today to the "laurea triennale", which has a normative time to completion of three years (notice that in Italy students graduate from high school at the age of 19) and grants the access to postgraduate degrees ( Laurea Magistrale ). Our accelerated BSN program attracts second-career seekers who are unable to make the time and financial commitment to a generic master's program, explained Elizabeth McGann, DNSc, RN, CS, Dean of the Department of Nursing at Quinnipiac University (CT). To be considered for admission to the four-year baccalaureate nursing major, the applicant must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.6 GPA, on a 4.0 scale, on all college-level work as computed by East Tennessee State University. But many nursing educators agree that it is the BSN degree that opens the most doors of opportunity for students of color doors to better jobs, graduate study and careers in research, academia, advanced practice and health care management. Accelerated Baccalaureate Programs Accelerated baccalaureate programs accomplish programmatic objectives in a shorter time frame than traditional four-year programs, usually through a combination of bridge courses and core content.
