Accelerated Bsn
The accelerated BSN program is intense and demands a certain type of individual. Accelerated programs require a heavy credit load and intense clinical experiences. If admitted to the BSN but not the MSN you can enroll as a BSN Second Degree student. Qualified applicants can earn a BSN degree in 1 years with accelerated 5 week courses. All BSN/MSN applicants must indicate ONE-desired Master's specialty in the application. The program consists of 64 credits of nursing courses, taken in an accelerated program over 14 months. Many new accelerated nursing students have limited clinical experience before entering the BSN program. Though not new to nursing education, accelerated programs have proliferated over the past fifteen years. Accelerated BSN programs train folks with bachelor's degrees in other fields to be nurses in 12 to 18 months. Today, 168 accelerated BSN programs are operating and the number of generic master's programs has increased to 50. In instances where employers are not repaying educational debt, the cost of an accelerated program can be prohibitive. Financial Challenge Accelerated nursing programs can be a double whammy on the finances of students and their families. By building upon past educational achievements, accelerated programs can graduate students with a BSN degree in four semesters. Typically, students with a prior degree are not required to take the liberals arts content included in a four-year BSN program. One innovative approach to nursing education that is gaining momentum nationwide is the accelerated degree program for non-nursing graduates. Today there are 168 accelerated BSN programs and 50 MSN programs and more than 46 new accelerated BSN programs are still being created (AACN). The overwhelming response to our accelerated programs demonstrates the existence of a deep pool of career changers available to nursing, said Gloria F. To the extent possible, we will use courses successfully completed from your first degree to fulfill the general education requirements of our BSN degree. Growing Demand for Accelerated Programs With a greater number of second-degree students turning to nursing, the demand for accelerated programs is growing. It is important to understand that you must be dedicated to this time commitment in order to progress through the Accelerated Option and graduate as expected. Students in accelerated programs are competitive, maintain high grade point averages, and almost always pass the NCLEX-RN licensure exam on the first attempt.
