Travel Nursing
Travel nursing is an exciting career for nurses that are looking for a change of pace. There is a nationwide nursing shortage that is expected to grow to 800,000 within ten years. For nurses this means that their services are growing in demand. The travel nursing industry works to meet the needs of both healthcare facilities and nurses. A typical travel nursing assignment is 13 weeks long at a hospital that needs to meet its census levels. Taking a travel nursing job allows the traveler to do several things:
- earn more money than she/he may make at a perm position
- see parts of the country they may not normally ever get a chance to see
- learn new skills and broaden their resume
The benefits of travel nursing can vary from company to company, but most travel nursing companies offer:
Good pay rates: Can vary from company to company and assignment to assignment. This can depend on your discipline and experience
Housing: Most companies offer paid housing, some offer housing that is private and fully furnished; while others have you live with other travelers
Per Diem: Per Diem allowances are a great opportunity for travel nurses to earn extra money, but not all companies offer it
Day One 401(k) Plan: Typically these are company matched and have first day enrollment
Referrals: Referral bonus programs come in all shapes and sizes, but the most common is $500
Travel Reimbursement: Tax-free travel stipends covering the costs of traveling to and from assignments
Day One Insurance: These are usually nationwide health and dental insurance plans that have first day enrollment
License Reimbursement: Many companies offer reimbursement for state licensure costs
Direct Deposit: This is a fairly standard benefit in which your weekly paycheck is directly deposited into your checking account
Vehicle: Some companies will also offer you a tax-free vehicle stipend
CEUs: Many companies also cover the cost of your Continuing Education requirements
